DAY 1
The area is particularly suggestive : from long stretches of lush vegetation you pass to glimpses of the lake and fairy-tale landscapes due to the typical red color of the Fiastrone river. Thanks to the abundant water resources, the flora and fauna are very rich . The round trip travel time is about 3 hours .
WHAT TO SEE
The spotlights immediately illuminate up there, towards the highest point of the hill. And there it is, the Aqueduct Reservoir : two large parallel tunnels that served to supply water to the entire city below.
The shot then moves downwards where the majestic Theatre stands. It is one of the largest in Italy and the only one that still retains significant traces of painted plaster.
Then, suddenly, the camera angle widens and the setting appears in its entirety: the Niche Building , the spectacular connection between the various levels of the city.
And when you are there, convinced that these beauties are already worth the price of the ticket, the show surprises you again. Your gaze falls on the majestic sacred area: a minor temple and a large Temple with cryptoporticus . For a moment you can lose yourself among the frescoes that tell the Augustan propaganda, the delightful panels with animal scenes, the lunar masks.
But don't linger too long: outside the imposing city walls (up to five metres high in some places) and the Amphitheatre , built by Lucius Flavius Silva Nonius Bassus at the end of the 1st century AD, await you.
The light goes out. The curtain falls.
OR
Experience Roman antiquity in the Falerio Picenus Archaeological Park
: Nestled in the wonderful landscape of the green hills of the Sibillini Mountains, Falerio Picenus shows itself almost timidly to the visitor, it reveals itself only to those who know how to observe, to those who, travelling along the Fermana-Faleriense road, take the time to observe the houses and those sudden, wonderful shreds of antiquity that, every now and then, appear between the modern houses. Those who allow themselves this privilege will not be disappointed, they will find themselves immersed in a rich, sumptuous, still evolving history, in a beautiful, lively and active town dotted with impressive monuments and characterised by fervent research. Here you can admire perhaps the best preserved theatre in the entire Marche region, one of the most evocative amphitheatres of the peninsula, two Roman cisterns of which one must have been monumental, all accompanied by exciting three-dimensional reconstructions and illustrated panels: a place where an extraordinary past is in constant relationship with the future and delights, in the present, both occasional visitors and the local population with their visceral love for these lands.

- CABERNARDI MORNING
- In Cabernardi , a hamlet of the municipality of Sassoferrato in the heart of the Marche hinterland, an enormous sulphur deposit was discovered in the second half of the nineteenth century, from which was extracted what became the most important sulphur-producing centre in Europe , for a long time the hub of the local economy.
- Inaugurated in July 2015 after extensive restoration work, the Cabernardi Archaeological Mining Park , which extends over a surface area of approximately two hectares, tells visitors the history of the mine and the lives of the many – at the beginning of the 1950s there were over 1400 – miners from all over Italy who worked there.
- The visit includes an open-air route showing the main areas of the mine , which was active between the 1870s and closed permanently in 1959, such as the “Donegani” shaft , used by miners to reach the underground tunnels, the calcaroni , where the raw sulphur was deposited before being refined through a combustion process, or the so-called “Gill” oven , similar to the calcaroni in function but more advanced from a technological point of view.
- The Cabernardi Archaeological Mining Park is flanked by the Municipal Sulphur Mine Museum , opened in 1992 and housed in a former school building.
- Collected here are many testimonies of mining activities , from objects and work tools, to the clothes worn by the miners, through photographic and documentary materials and interesting types of sulphur itself and other mining materials.
- To visit the Archaeological Mining Park, reservations are required . Opening hours and availability are visible on the official website of the Cabernardi Sulphur Mine: www.minieracabernardi.it .
